Periodontal Therapy
Did you know that your gums are just as important as your teeth when it comes to your oral health? They protect your teeth’s sensitive roots and provide them with essential blood. Despite this, over half of the U.S. adult population has a form of gum disease. What starts as mild irritation can easily lead to painful, bacteria-filled pockets along the gum line and a higher risk of tooth loss. At Great Impression Dental, Dr. Joseph Kelly and our team will always keep an eye on your gums to make sure they are perfectly healthy. If you develop a more advanced case, we have a few ways to help you treat the disease as well. If you have gums that are red, swollen, or bleed frequently, be sure to contact our office soon for periodontal therapy.
Scaling & Root Planing
Scaling and root planing can easily be described as a dental cleaning for patients with periodontal disease. It has the same goal: to eliminate harmful plaque, tartar, and bacteria.
Scaling involves using small manual tools to clear away built up plaque and bacteria from your gum line. Afterward, root planing is used to smooth the surfaces of your teeth’s roots. This makes it much harder for you to develop gum disease in the future and allows your gums to reattach to your teeth much more easily while they are healing.
Soft Tissue Laser
This is a fantastic tool we can use to treat the most advanced cases of gum disease. It is able to remove harmful plaque and bacteria and damaged tissue all at once. The laser is very precise, meaning it is able to treat only the infected areas while leaving healthy ones alone. This means you’ll recover much faster afterward. Plus, it cauterizes tissues as it goes, meaning you’ll not only experience less pain, but less bleeding as well. Our soft tissue laser is just one example of how we use technology to give you a higher quality of care.
